Advice for your IT network over the Christmas period
Over the Christmas period do you close your offices? If you do, we recommend you follow this advice to ensure that and you’re not dealing with unexpected issues that could stop your business from operating effectively in January.
- Leave your IT equipment running.
Your IT equipment (servers, UPS, backup systems and so on) have most likely being running throughout the year and because of this have held a consistent temperature. If you turn this equipment off over the Christmas period it could get extremely cold (as your heating will most likely be off too and we all know how cold it can get in winter!) and fractures may appear in circuits, resulting in the equipment becoming unusable.
You will not know about this until you return and the last problem any business wants to come back to is an unusable server that means your employees cannot access the data or software they need to work.
- Don’t forget to back up your data.
Make sure your backup is carried out and the latest backup is taken off-site when you close for Christmas. If a disaster or something unexpected happens, you will have all of the data that will keep your business running.
