5 reasons to upgrade to Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008

If you haven’t already thought about upgrading your operating system to Windows 7 or your server to Windows 2008 then let us try to convince you with our top five reasons to move to both!
Why upgrade to Windows 7?
- It’s easier to find what you need
- 2. Multitasking has been made much easier
- 3. Its more stable and works with all of your software
- 4. It’s got improved security features
- 5. Overall performance is vastly improved
Navigating around your computer is now much easier due to three features of Windows 7 – the peek feature allows you to see the desktop by turning the existing windows transparent (but not minimising or closing them), the shake function allows you to minimise all other open windows except the one you are using by ‘shaking’ it, and finally the snap function, which you may have seen on TV, allows you to snap windows to half screen or full screen simply by dragging them to the edge of the screen.
The layout of Windows 7’s toolbars allows for much easier access to all of your favourite and commonly used programmes. Any icon can be pinned to the taskbar so it can be quickly accessed and loaded at any time.
Unlike previous editions of Windows you won’t have any problems with the software you are using now. Out of the box Windows 7 works with the majority of software and hardware that worked with XP and Vista without the need to download new drivers.
Windows 7 will automatically update itself against threats to your computer and, instead of annoying security pop ups, you can control the amount of prompts you receive with minimised alert messages in the toolbar.
The overall look and feel of the system has been greatly improved. Windows 7 has been built on the reliability and speed of Windows XP with all of the features of Vista to create a reliable, fast and user friendly operating system.
Why upgrade to Windows Server 2008 R2?
- 1. Support for Windows Server 2000 is ending in July
- 2. Reduced Power Consumption
- 3. Improved Remote Access
- 4. Virtualisation Technology
- 5. Easier Server Management
If you are still using Windows Server 2000 then you will need to upgrade your system to continue receiving support and updates. Running an unsupported server could be risky and prone to virus threats that are not already protected against.
The power levels used by Windows 2008 Server R2 are now monitored and the processors are utilised to the correct level required at any given time. This reduces the amount of powered used and can help to reduce overheads.
Windows Server 2008 introduced a new way for remote users to access network resources without relying on VPN connections. The Direct Access feature allows you to work remotely in a way that gives you greater flexibility than ever before with the ability to work as if you were in the office from anywhere.
Virtual Machine Technology in Windows 2008 Server R2 allows you to run multiple operating systems on a single system – this allows for the consolidation of multiple servers and a simplified disaster and recovery process.
Windows 2008 Server makes the management of your server much simpler with the ability to run a remote Server Manager that helps to easily manage the common server tasks that need to be carried out.
